Next I’m going to create another layer and you know what I’m going to do to make things simple on myself I’m going to do everything in grayscale for right now now you might you might ask why what what’s grayscale what’s what’s the importance of doing things in grayscale well a lot of times whenever you’re painting something or whenever you’re you’re establishing color and things like that sometimes you you can get a little out of control when it comes to color you know you can you can start adding if you’re really good with with uh with colors and adding values to colors you know people people are able to do that but if you’re just starting out if you’re like if you’re trying to follow a little bit of a process in what you’re doing I like to just do everything in grayscale meaning that my background I’m going to make it kind of like a medium Gray like this and now whenever I add in values I’m only focusing in on two colors black and white

so if I create a layer here I rename this

I’m going to call this

dark or darks

I’m going to naming them I’m going to name another one excuse me a little bit of Tourette’s there highlights

so I’m just dealing with two different colors and I’m using the background as kind of like my middle my middle ground so I’m going to focus in on my darks first when I use black I’m going to go into my painting and I could go with let’s let’s try acrylic just to with all these brushes they kind of give you different looks you know um let’s focus in on the blacks the blacks are more or less around here a little bit too thick make sure I’m on the right layer yep I want to move this stuff behind the head sketch

just for the darks just for just to make things simple for myself

I come in here and just start I’m just blocking things in I’m not I’m not focusing on like Precision or anything like that I’m just coming in here

and I’m just cutting it in right that’s like a painting term right just cut

it’s cut in like so

you know you can get a little stylized with it why not

now as I do this

if I want to put in a highlight I can just go into my layers go into highlights switch my color to a white and then start putting in some highlights

I was focusing in on two colors that’s it

that’s a little bit too light

like that

I’m going to lower my opacity a little bit

maybe even a little more

I just come in here and just start lightly drawing in some highlights

what about over here by the ears

let’s go back to the darks make sure you make sure you’re on the right layer that’s very important

because there ain’t nothing worse than being on the wrong layer and you’ve done all kinds of made all kinds of Headway and you found out that you’re in the wrong layer that’s a pain in the butt

and I’m just randomly going around my drawing

and just blocking things in
