Santa Monica Pier: Dreamscape Procreate Painting Tutorial

On a flight to Los Angeles, I decided to bring out my iPad during the flight and paint what I remember from previous trips. The Santa Monica Pier is one of my favorite places to visit when I go. There’s something about the Santa Monica area that I love. Sunsets really amp up the amazing view of the beach and the Pacific Ocean. I’m always able to recall the Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel extending out into the ocean with the Santa Monica Mountains as the backdrop.

While working on the painting it really didn’t look like much for the first half of the flight. I continued to stick with it until we were about 20 minutes outside of LAX. My brain was zapped from concentrating, but it really turned into something I’m proud of. A passenger sitting next to me said he saw what I was doing at the beginning and woke up suprised to see how the painting turned out well. As I was putting on the finishing touches, I noticed other passengers looking at it too. That made me feel great!

I create digital paintings of pop culture, movies, icons and anything that inspires me. Time flies when I’m creating something that begins to take shape. It’s been great transitioning from traditional pencil and paper to work digitally. A tablet and stylus has really brought my artwork to life!
